WERA-72, 2008 MEETING
Agribusiness Research Emphasizing Competitiveness and Profitability
The WERA-72 Committee (formerly known as the WCC-72 Committee) will host its annual meeting June 18 - 20, 2008 in Santa Clara, CA. The Executive Officers are seeking proposals for program activities for these meetings. Agribusiness researchers, teachers and extension specialists are invited to submit proposals for the following program activities:
- Selected papers (completed research)
- Research reports (on-going research)
- Panel sessions (with two to four panelists speaking on a common theme)
- Reports on agribusiness extension activities
- Reports on agribusiness teaching initiatives
- Industry speakers
- Co-sponsored sessions with other coordinating committees (e.g., NC-1016, S-1019).
Suggested topic areas for selected paper, research report and panel session proposals include:
- Globalization and its implications for food safety and food defense
- Food vs. Fuel, and implications for food prices, energy independence, the environment, and farm incomes
- Emerging agribusiness markets (GMOs, organic produce, and natural produce);
- Case studies and teaching/learning in agribusiness
- Extension topics in Agribusiness and Rural Development
- Advances in Agribusiness Economics/Management Research Methods
The WERA-72 meetings have a long tradition of “idea-sharing,” the discussion of works-in-progress, mentoring and the professional development of agribusiness faculty, and the inclusion and full participation of graduate students in program activities. Please consider submitting a proposal and plan on joining us in June!
The meeting will begin with a reception on Wednesday night, June 18, 2008. Meeting sessions will be held on June 19th and 20th. Information about hotel reservations, meeting registration and other details will be available soon (via email and at the WERA-72 webpage, ( http://www.aaec.ttu.edu/wera/ ). Instructions for Submitting Proposals
- For proposals for selected papers, reports, panel sessions, etc. please submit an abstract (maximum of two pages, double-spaced) that summarizes the nature of the proposal. Abstracts should be e-mailed by Friday, February 29, 2008. For research papers preference will be given to abstracts that clearly and concisely address the following: Motivation, Objective, Methods, Likely Results, and Implications. If results are not yet available, the ability to complete the work by the June meeting date should be clearly indicated in the abstract if appropriate. If you are submitting a panel session proposal, please note the certainty with which participants can be counted upon to appear. Please include your contingency plans regarding participant appearance.
- Attach a cover sheet to the proposal which includes: title, names of participant(s) and/or author(s), and name, address, phone, FAX and e-mail for the contact person. Regarding papers only, please do not identify the authors on the two-page abstract.
- Individuals submitting proposals will be notified about acceptance by March 30, 2008.
- Authors of selected papers should prepare a full paper using guidelines for submission to The International Food and Agribusiness Management Review. The final version of the paper should be available for distribution at the June meeting. Papers will be placed on the WERA-72 homepage.
